Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Squad Against Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-match ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a surprise inclusion.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI side following managing only a single run in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a top score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test recall in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

There have been indications of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia seek a answer to their top-order woes.

Pace Additions and Injury News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after having time off since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
